SenSen reports record revenue as city wins lift growth

SenSen Networks has reported record annual recurring revenue of AUD $11.7 million, record customer cash receipts of AUD $16 million, and positive operating cash flow of AUD $0.4 million in the June quarter.

The Melbourne-based artificial intelligence company is expanding its smart city business in Australia and North America, with more than 60 cities globally using its technology.

Quarterly cash receipts reached AUD $5.3 million, up 31%. Annual recurring revenue rose 17%, customer cash receipts increased 14%, and usage revenue grew 35% over the year, indicating customers are using more of its systems after deployment.

Late in the year, SenSen won five new North American city contracts in two months: Pittsburgh Parking Authority, Toronto Exhibition Place, Birmingham, Kitchener, and Mississauga.

That lifted SenSen's North American smart city customer base to 27, including 17 in Canada and 10 in the United States. Four of the five new deployments - Pittsburgh, Toronto Exhibition Place, Kitchener, and Mississauga - were live by the end of the financial year, with Birmingham expected to follow.

Its existing relationship with the City of Las Vegas has also been extended for up to five years. In Australia, SenSen signed new five-year agreements with Cairns Regional Council and the City of Newcastle, and expanded its work with Ipswich City Council.

City contracts

The latest Australian activity also marks a return to SenSen's home city market. During the June quarter, it began paid trials with Darebin City Council and Port Phillip City Council, its first local government deployments in metropolitan Melbourne.

SenSen was founded by Professor Subhash Challa, whose work in artificial intelligence data fusion began at the University of Melbourne. The company focuses on computer vision and on combining inputs from multiple cameras, sensors, and other data sources to interpret activity in physical environments.

Its products are used in parking and kerbside management, traffic enforcement, road safety, heavy vehicle monitoring, security, and fuel retail loss prevention. The technology is designed to give customers a continuously updated view of events in physical spaces.

Physical world AI

SenSen's growth comes as much of the broader artificial intelligence market remains focused on large language models and generative AI tools. The company has instead built its business around systems designed to detect and interpret real-world events through cameras and sensor networks.

That approach has found demand among local authorities managing congestion, parking compliance, contested kerb space, and traffic flow. SenSen has also pointed to uses in schools and hospitals, where monitoring physical environments can support safety and security measures.

Earlier in the year, SenSen said Australian variable recurring revenue had more than doubled as deployment of its solar-powered SenPIC cameras increased. That rise, together with stronger usage revenue, helped lift recurring revenue to a new high.

The latest figures suggest the company is beginning to turn its long-running research in machine perception into larger contract footprints and steadier revenue from public sector customers. More than 60 cities now use SenSen technology across its applications.
